I’m looking for a yoga video that I can use daily. I’ve been doing yoga, so a beginner’s tape isn’t necessary. I’m just looking for something new.

The benefits of yoga are too numerous to list here but I’ll give you some of the highlights. There are physical, mental and spiritual benefits. The physical benefits include, but are not limited to, improved flexibility, circulation, breathing, cardiovascular conditioning, strength and pain management. Yoga also teaches people to take slower, deeper breaths, which activates the body’s relaxation response and lowers the levels of the stress hormone cortisol. As a result, yoga eases anxiety, depression, fatigue and insomnia. When the physical poses are combined with breathing and meditation, yoga also leads to a deep connection with spirit and peace of mind.

Q&A: What are the health benefits of taking yoga?

Question by Epic Clouds: What are the health benefits of taking yoga?
Whenever I do yoga, my joints seem to get a little achy. And I’m not old, I’m not even 20. Is it because I’m locking my elbows and knees too much? Also, I’d like to know some of the health benefits of doing yoga regularly. Is it true that it helps your body get rid of toxins?

Thanks!

  1. Hannibal the Cannibal says:

Yoga helps stimulate various glands, like your lymph nodes, which do help your body properly process out all the junk in your body.

As for your joints, it’s because they’re weak. Make sure that you are doing the poses correctly, and adjust them if you need to. Your body will adjust, just keep at it.

  2. Tarah says:

My mom takes yoga. She is turning 50 soon. She loves it. It calms her down and allows her a better frame of mind to deal with my brothers (who can be quite a hassle sometimes). It is great exercise for her, she also runs a lot and her yoga has really improved her running. It lengthens the muscles and creates power in the core (solar plexus) which is key for running, standing up straight, and supporting your back. You really shouldn’t experience joint pain from yoga. It’s all about muscles. Try changing the way you breathe while you’re doing it, and definitely try not to lock your joints. I would suggest going to a beginner class where the instructors can offer constructive criticism to your positions and style. That way you can make sure what you’re doing is helping your body, and not hurting it. No pain, no gain does not apply to yoga at all. It’s all about relaxing, finding an inner calm, and strengthening your muscles to support you in ways that most people can’t. Good luck with that!

Q&A: does anyone want to try raja yoga meditation?

Question by Sriram Cherukuri: does anyone want to try raja yoga meditation?
raja yoga means the king of yoga.
It does not concentrate on physical exercises, or any bhajans, or any other wierd stuff.
it is purely meditation with the help of a Guru, to reach the god.

Oh and for the record, the weird stuff is pretending there is a god. So you fail on two points…

Q&A: What is the best music for meditation and yoga?

Question by TTC baby #1 <3: What is the best music for meditation and yoga?
I like to “meditate” before doing yoga; that way the motions are pure and relaxing. I have been listening to Buddhist Zen and Japanese Zen (videos on youtube) I found yesterday that doing this made me so relaxed and… honestly just a happier person. My husband even complimented on me being in a better mood before I even mentioned doing the yoga and meditation.

**** If you have any advice or recommendations feel free to let me know.

Maybe what kind of incense are good and candles? anything really (: thank you!

I recently had back surgery to repair a ruptured disk in my upper back. My current bed is very old and worn, and I believe that it is contributing to the back pain that awakens me when I try to sleep in my bed. I don’t have much money for a new bed – what can I do to find some relief?

Sleep on the floor or other hard surface. Seriously. Bad beds contribute to back pain more than people realize. The floor provides support your back needs. Use a pillow under your neck and watch out for spiders. =)

    Feel better soon.

I bought a ‘Craftmatic” bed after sleeping in my recliner for 5 years. It was rather expensive…apx. $ 3,000. A lot of money, yes, but what price do you put on a really good nights sleep? I had tried waterbeds. waveless and conventional. I tried feather mattress pads, and ‘egg crate’ pads, not to mention all the extra pillows I used to prop myself up in a variety of positions looking for some relief. All of these helped for short periods of time, but if I was to add up the cost of all of them, I should have bought the Craftmatic adjustable bed to start with. Good luck with your search for relief. My bed has built in massage, the head and foot of the bed can be raised or lowered…it can come with built in heat, but I opted to save money and get a heated mattress pad instead. After one year, I am still sleeping peacefully and pain free.

the bed that moulds to your body seen on adverts good 4 any pain in the back :)

  4. metfan1961 says:

All I can say is the experience I have had and I truly hope my advice, will help..DO NOT SLEEP on a hard floor! I have had back surgery removing dics 4 and 5, a rod was placed, eight screws and a cage, you do NOT need to be laying on a very hard surface, YES it puts your back in straight alignment, but you do not want that as it is NOT comforming to the natural curves of the spine! You NEED somthing that when you place your hand under your lower back when laying down, COMFORMS TO YOUR LOWER BACK! YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE A SPACE BETWEEN YOUR BACK AND THE BED! I have had this surgery, and I have had 4 years of physical therapy (unsuccessful may I add due to my condition) and I dropped 80 pounds..I have come to discover Firm or too soft is no help..I bought a dial a number sleep comfort bed, and it has helped me immensley! You can choose the number most comfortable for you, and it adjusts differently on each side, so each spouse can adjust to their needs..I found the middle number BEST for me..I will never ever be pain free, I was explained by my orthopedist ( and I went to 4 different orthos, getting four different opinions after FREAKING out when I learned the back surgery they each said I needed)..As I will always have back pain, it was reduced with spinal supportive surgery, and I invested in the sleep number bed, and yes I still do use meds, I have NO choice…IM telling you, you must investigate this type of sleep bed for your self, my hubby on the other hand had the same exact surgery himself, and can NOT sleep in the sleep number bed or ANY bed since his back surgery, he sleeps on the recliner, as laying on his back is too painful! My advice to you, is to check out the sleep number bed and ALSO THE CRAFTMATIC bed…the craftmatic bed adjusts to your position when you sleep..YOU NEED to do some “Investigative” shopping..And some of these bed manfacturers will let you try their beds out on a 30 day free trial…As for my hubby and I we are checking into the craft matic bed, if I can switch over to it, I will, I feel horrible he has to sleep on the recliner since his surgery almost a year ago :(
Please do your self a favor, never take advice from anyone that hasnt gone through these chronic back problems, DO ask a licensed Physical therapist!!! And PLEASE DO NOT sleep on a floor or a very hard surface!!! That is OLD wives tales for people that do not have “chronic”back pain, and you can do MORE HARM to your back!
GOOD LUCK and BETTER HEALTH to YOU!!!
